The Bedouin people are Arabic speaking tribal people who traditionally lived a nomadic pastoralist lifestyle focused on keeping camels and goats. They are Indigenous people to the Arabian Peninsula and have long lived on or near the desert regions of the Middle East and Norther Africa. Today, most Bedouin’s people live in permanent settlements, but there are still estimated to be hundreds of thousands of Bedouins living traditional nomadic pastoral lifestyle spread across the Middle East and North Africa with populations spread between Palestine and Egypt.

One of the most famous art forms of Bedouin’s culture is Sadu weaving. This is a form of geometric weaving usually produced in lines in a wide variety of colours. It is designed to reflect other colours, impressions and pace of the life Bedouins live in the desert. It is an internationally famous form of embroidery and is now recognised by the United Nations as a form of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which allows the Bedouin to protect this heritage in their own interests.

This dress hints at this amazing embroidery art form with its print on the chest and cuffs of this dress. The print provides horizontal rows of geometric patterning in a wide variety of beautiful colours. This gorgeous pattern is set against a French blue/grey colour, promoting the warmth in the colours chosen for the patterns.

The dress is made from a heavy crepe that breaths beautifully making it exceptionally cool in summer. The dress has a high waist, ensuring it falls beautifully and does not grip the body. It also means there is ample room to wear pants or other undergarments beneath this dress without causing it to grip uncomfortably.
