The Moroccan Kaftan is a style of Abaya dress loved the world over. It is readily identifiable with its layered open abaya over a sewn in base abaya and held together with a gorgeous belt. What many people outside Morocco fail to realise is that this is not a “daily wear” garment. This is very much a garment for weddings and special events. This is why it is so often produced with extensive embroidery, fine fabrics such as silk, satin, brocade and velvet, and endless uses of gold and other metallic threads and embellishments.

Needless to say, this makes for a kaftan that is stunningly elegant and embellished. But this also makes true Moroccan Kaftans mind-bogglingly expensive! And here in the West, it is common for women to wear less adorned versions of these kaftans on a daily basis, simply due to their style and shape.

In response to our customers’ requests for a “daily-wear” Moroccan inspired kaftan, we have found this beautiful kaftan dress. All the decoration on this kaftan is printed, so there are no layers of material to make this kaftan hot. In fact, it is made of a very light-weight polyester, so it is cool to wear and does not crease easily. It can be worn without the belt over clothes, like an abaya. Alternately, you can tie the included belt to cinch it in at the waist and this wear it as a dress or with a pair of tights if the skirt is not long enough. If you prefer a looser waist tie, you can also fasten the belt with a brooch or hijab pin, so it is the perfect size for you, and it provides the look of a Moroccan Kaftan belt without pulling the waist in too far and becoming problematic to your personal modest standards.
