Elasticity: This fabric is silk and this has no elasticity. However, there is extensive elasticised ruching around the waist, allowing these pants to fit people of many sizes. Likewise, their is elastic at the ankles ensuring the ample material does not allow the pants to ride up the leg of the wearer.

Our Hippy style clothes are made in Nepal. These garments are made using fair trade and slow fashion practices, thereby creating work and future employment opportunities for Nepalese people, without creating sweat-shop working conditions. This entire fair trade, slow fashion principle is entirely in line with the hippy style which came out of the 1960s-70s pop-culture and political movement of the same name. Hippy philosophies sought to recognise the influence of ethnic communities, celebrate historical and traditional folk arts, and create environmentally and socially sustainable employment opportunities via local cooperatives and community interests. These pants are made utilising a modern implementation of these philosophies. It celebrates the use of natural (thus more environmentally sustainable) products such as silk, and the use of these products in garments that emphasise earthy colours and folk art - two elements critical to the hippy aesthetic.

These pants pay homage to historic and ethnic trouser styles. Specifically, they are based on the “harem” pants style which originated in the ancient Persian empire. However, there are many styles of harem pants, and so the manufacturers allude to the Disney cartoon character of Aladdin who wore harem pants with a dropped crotch, the same as these pants. These pants look and feel like wearing a light silk skirt, except the addition of a crotch and ankle elastic cuffs ensures there is no ability for the pants to be caught in the wind and blown upwards thus revealing the wearers’ legs. So these are not only incredibly comfortable pants due to their silk fabric, they are comfortable to wear and do not restrict movement. They are also absolutely gorgeous with their green and pink paisley print! They work perfectly with our army green cotton shirt!

One Size Fits Most up to XL: the ruched waist can comfortably stretch to fit a waist of 108cm. However, please note that these pants have a wide ruched waist band approximately 30cm wide. So the elasticised band sits not only on the waist but also across the stomach below the navel. If your stomach sticks out a lot further than your waist, these pants will grip your belly in this area.
