Note:
The material this suit is made from (Cotton Rayon) may shrink between 1-3cm after its first wash. The measurements stated in the sizing guide are before washing. If you are concerned about shrinking causing this suit to become too fitted for your modesty standards, we recommend ordering one size larger than your usual size for shrinking allowance.

This suit is the ultimate in cool, modest suits. The whole suit is made from light, breathable cotton rayon, meaning it will comfortably move with your body and is never hot or clingy. Likewise, the A line cut of the blouse ensures ease of movement and a beautiful, airy look to this outfit.

But the real beauty of this outfit is its celebration of Ikat weaving. Ikat is a form of textile production practiced throughout the world, but hypothesised to have originated in Indonesia and surrounding countries. The word Ikat actually comes from the Malay language, highlighting its significance to Malaysian history and culture. Ikat is formed when fibres are dyed prior to being weaves into fabric. This results in a wide variety of colours and patterns often with the famous blurring Ikat design is famous for. This blurring of patterns is the result of the difficulty in lining up coloured threads perfectly during the weaving process.

Today, most “ikat” designs are in reality only ikat inspired, as the blurred pattern is printed onto fabric rather than woven into the fabric. True woven ikat fabric can be prohibitively expensive. The cost goes up as the blurring goes down, as this is a sign of a truly skilled artisan.

This outfit is of course most likely Ikat inspired (although the manufacturer does not explicitly state this). However its highly affordable price tag makes it seem most likely that this traditional ikat design was printed onto the fabric. Regardless, this suit is a joy to wear and a privilege to own with its historical recognition of the importance of ikat textile design within Malaysian culture. And most of all - it’s quite simply gorgeous! 😍
