Beige Hawaiian Shirt with Matching Palazzo Pants

Sizes: S, M, L

Opacity: 2

Sleeve: Fixed

Elasticity: This fabric has no significant elasticity, but as it is designed to be loose and blowsy this doesn’t really matter. The waist band of the palazzo pants is elasticised at the back, meaning there is much scope for waist size variation - great for those who have an active job or a belly that swells throughout the day. It’s also wonderful for pregnant sisters as there is enough space in this outfit to conform to their changing body for a long time!

What we in the West commonly call a Hawaiian shirt, is actually called an Aloha shirt. Developed in the 1930s, these shirts were initially a button up men’s shirt with a collar and short sleeves. They were advertised as having bright colours and tropical designs. After Hawaii was colonised by the USA in 1959, these shirt became internationally popular and appeared with variations in sleeve type, colour and cut making them available to women also. But the one continual feature that still defines the Aloha shirt is its use of tropical flora and fauna in its designs. While this outfit tones down the colour, to a more sophisticated and muted white and beige, suitable for work or more formal events as well as time spent at the beach, it maintains this love of tropical content with the repeated palm tree print being the feature of the blouse.

This outfit is very loose and blowsy in its design. The pants are designed to float around the legs rather than touch them. Likewise, the blouse is designed to merely float across the breasts rather than grab the body. It is worth noting that we have rated the opacity of this outfit to be a 2, as the white top would be transparent enough to see undergarments through it if it was worn closer to the body. If the blouse is worn loose, as intended, it is closer to a 3 on our opacity scale.

Another point to consider when deciding if this outfit is right for you is to note that these pants are LONG! Anyone under approximately 170cm tall are likely going to need to wear substantial high heels or have the hem rolled and pinned or taken up to stop the hem from scraping on the ground (which is a danger in pants as the hem becomes a trip hazard). I am 164cm tall and I need to wear very high platform heels (7cm tall) to stop the hem dragging.

However, now is a nice time to admit that I rarely have trouble finding pants. But I have beautiful friends who are substantially taller than me, and finding pants long enough to meet their modest standards is a constant and seemingly endless hassle. So I actually don’t mind needing to wear heels or take up the hem on this outfit, as it makes me smile to think we can support our tall modest sisters who have such a difficult time around this specific clothing feature! 😍

So there is a great deal to love about this outfit and its versatility and stylish practicality make it a wonderful outfit to own, particularly in the warmer weather.
