Elasticity: The fabric has no elastic content, however the cotton/rayon component of the fabric will slowly stretch to your shape (similar to the way denim stretches to fit the wearer).

A classic feature of many African and Middle Eastern traditional clothes is Guipure lace. This is a heavy lace, similar to crochet or other traditional lace making crafts. The thread used to make this lace is thick, allowing the lace to sit higher than the fabric it is stitched to - giving an embossed appearance to the decoration. Here it is appealingly created in a navy blue to visually contrast against the aqua fabric of the dress. This is a modern take on this classic style, with this aqua being much brighter than traditional colour choices of Middle Eastern fashion. However, it’s important to remember that Egypt, while a Muslim majority nation - is not in the “Middle East” (when this term is applied to the geographical region in and around the Arabian peninsula in Asia), but rather is an African country. And many African cultures have a long tradition of producing textiles in saturated colours to reflect the sun kissed land they lived in. So this garment is in fact a beautiful fusion of two modest clothing regions (Africa and the Middle East), produced in a country that is very much a link between these two beautiful regions of the world.

As this is an Egyptian abaya (designed to be worn over clothes therefore generous in size), it is marketed as being “One size fits all.” We know this is nonsense as there is far too much beautiful physical diversity to suggest a single garment could ever fit everyone. Therefore, we choose the term “One Size Fits Many” and note that this abaya should fit most people who wear any size up to a Myriad Modest Fashion 2XL. You will also note this abaya has a V neckline, so if wearing it as a dress, you may wish to wear a singlet or shirt beneath it in line with your own modesty standards.
